The Legendary Roads

Spearfish Canyon

US 14A Scenic Byway

Limestone walls, a winding creek, and one of the best canyon rides anywhere.

Spearfish Canyon is one of our favorite rides in the northern hills. Tall limestone walls rise on both sides as the road follows Spearfish Creek through the pines, from the town of Spearfish up to Cheyenne Crossing.

The curves are smooth and flowing, the cliffs seem to get taller around every bend, and the canyon opens into green meadows along the way. Bridal Veil Falls tumbles down the rock right beside the road, and it makes a great place to pull over.

The canyon feels different every season. In late September and early October the aspens and birch turn gold, and it is hard to beat anywhere.

One stop on a bigger ride. Every tour covers several of these roads, not just one. Your Lead Rider links them together into a full day of riding, picking the best route for the weather, road conditions, and the group.
